For decades Breitling has been an industry leader in lavish luxury time pieces. Bentley Motor Cars has enjoyed the same reputation when it comes to the finest automobiles in production. So it was natural that the two would come together to produce the Bentley Supersports Light Body Limited Edition.
2 Weeks ago Finland’s four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen set the 205.45 mph ice speed record in an All-wheel drive, biofuel-powered 6 liter, 12 cylinder Continental Supersports Convertible and Bentley is celebrating with a very pretty timepiece limited to just 1,000 pieces.
This time piece complements the design of the Supersports Convertible itself. Constructed of a light and sturdy titanium chassis, its “dashboard-style” dial is enhanced by three ringed counters and its bezel with a typically Bentley style raised Knurled motif. Thus Bentley says that the Supersports Light Body limited series evokes a sophisticated high-powered coupe car.
Breitling has also equipped it with an extremely intelligent and exclusive double-counter system, featuring a central minute hand and a twin-handed totaliser enabling one to read the elapsed hours and minutes at a glance just as one usually reads standard time on a watch. Important with this piece because of how much information its dial provides.
Technical Specs:
Movement: Breitling Calibre 27B, officially chronometer-certified by the COSC, self-winding, high-frequency (28,800 vibrations per hour), 38 jewels. 1/4th of a second chronograph, central 60-minute totalizer, combined 60-minute and 12-hour totaliser.
Case: titanium, 1,000-piece limited edition. Water-resistant to 100 m. Screw-locked crown. Bidirectional rotating pinion bezel with variable tachometer (circular slide rule). Cambered sapphire crystal, glare-proofed on both sides.
Diameter: 49 mm.
Dial: Royal Ebony.
Strap: Rubber.
I prefer cleaner dials with a classic and more elegant look. However I have always had a thing for Breitling pieces. Though it does offer a lot more than some of my other favorite models there has always been something about Breitling Chronographs like the Continental Supersports Light Body limited that pulls me away from my comfort zone and forces me to enjoy something a bit more bold.
Appropriate for a time piece celebrating a 205 mph Ice speed run.
