In business, you simply cannot procrastinate. If the opportunity comes along, seize it right away!
A few minutes ago, I came back from Starbucks where I had a very interesting conversation with two young men that I had met about 2 months ago or so who are interested in starting a business. Their goal is to open a mobile car wash.
About a month ago, we discussed some steps they could take to start their business. I gave them some ideas along with some great resources they could use to help themselves. Most of the discussion was centered on steps to get started. A month has passed since we last talked and so I eagerly asked them how their business idea had grown. I was fairly excited to hear or see how far they had gotten in a month but ended up very disappointed.
For the past month, they had simply designed an inefficient flyer and nothing more. You may think to yourself that it is not that bad. Some people wouldn’t have done anything but remember, we all want wealth, and it doesn’t come from doing nothing, it comes from taking action where others don’t, so understand that I was expecting more from two 19 year olds that have no daytime jobs and have plenty of free time on their hands.
I want to take a moment to discuss what makes the difference between winners and ordinary people.
Many people blame success on being lucky, or being in the right place at the right time. Success certainly is impacted by timing but it is not dependent on it. Those that win are the focused individuals that work hard and take advantage of opportunity. Success is when hard work meets opportunity. Opportunity is everywhere in just about everything we do, what you choose to see is your opportunity.
When starting a business or when simply having an idea, simply ask yourself, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” Once you decide where you want to be, then choose what the commitment level you need will be to get there.
What makes the difference between those that make their dreams into reality is simply the dedication they put forth and the commitment they make to themselves that nothing will stop them.
No one makes money overnight when starting a business, and so it is important to remain focused on the plan regardless of the money, follow you gut, achieve your model and don’t let anything distract you from your important goals.
So where will you be in 5 years?
