Twitter Marketing Strategies That Will Get You More Customers.

I hope you aren’t using the “I’m just winging it” approach when marketing your business on Twitter. I mean, considering how the platform has about 120 million unique monthly visitors, it’d be such a waste if you aren’t using it at its full capacity when you’re fishing for more customers online.

While others make Twitter marketing seem like rocket science, I want to tell you right now that marketing on Twitter is quite simple. It’s not that easy, but it is simple. If you’re looking for Twitter marketing strategies that you can use to bring you more customers, then you’re definitely in the right place. The tips that I’ll share with you will help you with just that.

What’s more, these tips are actionable. That being said, if you want to implement the tips immediately after reading this article, then you’ll be able to do so without a hitch.

Let’s hop right in.

1. Twitter Search + Job Title

As you can probably imagine, this strategy is quite straightforward.

Here’s how it works:

  1. List down as many of your customer’s job titles.
  2. Type in these job titles in Twitter’s search box.
  3. Click the “Accounts” filter, so everything that appears on your page are actual accounts and not posts, or videos, etc…
  4. “Follow” the relevant accounts that come up.
  5. Once they add you back, you can start building relationships with them.

All the steps that I mentioned seem pretty self-explanatory, right? Except for the first and the last point, I guess.

So allow me to tell you a bit more about them.

List down as many of your customer’s job titles.

Since one of the services that I offer is to write white papers, the job titles that almost always end up on my list are, Content Development Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, Content Marketing Manager, Content Strategies, etc.

At this point, you can probably put two and two together as to why my list is comprised of these job titles. Since these are the people who are most likely in charge of making sure that their businesses have a constant flow of content, it makes them my prime target as a content producer myself.

Once they add you back, you can start building relationships with them.

You’ll be amazed at how easy this is. One of the best strategies that I use is to feature them on my website.

I tell them something along these lines…

“Hey (their first name). I think the article you published about (the title of their article with the link attached to it) was quite impressive.

How would you feel about getting interviewed? I’m sure my audience would love to hear your expert advice about (a relevant topic).

Of course, you are more than welcome to (talk about a benefit that they can get should they accept the interview offer).

This strategy has been working wonders for me. I imagine that to be so because by interviewing my connections, they’d feel that I value them as a person (among others).

2. The Double Question Approach. Jab! Jab! Straight!

What do you do with the people who add you in Twitter? Do you pitch your services to them on the get go? Do you offer a free ebook? Or do you straight up ignore them?

I hope you answered none of the above. Because for the most part, these aren’t the best ways to turn your contacts into paying customers — especially the bit where you straight up ignore them.

What I like to do instead is to use the “Jab! Jab! Straight!” approach.

Here’s how it works:

When someone adds you in Twitter, instead of doing any of the things that I mentioned above, you can ask them questions instead: two questions to be very specific (these are your “jabs”).

First, you can ask them about what it is that they do. Second, you can ask them if there’s any way that you can help them. Notice how this approach has nothing to do with you. In fact, the questions you asked are all about them and how they can benefit from connecting with you.

Isn’t that an incredible first impression to make?

Asking both questions is a good gesture to show your contact that you are interested in them. This tells them that you aren’t just driven by your own gain, but you are also interested in helping themOf course, when they reply to both of your questions, you’ll have a better understanding of who they are, what they need, and how you can fill that need making your pitch even more effective (your “straight”).

Thus, the name of the approach is called “Jab! Jab! Straight!”

Here’s how I craft my welcome message:

Hi (their first name),

Thanks for the follow. I followed you back. Can you tell me more about what it is you do? Also, if there’s any way I can help you, do let me know. I’ll be more than happy to help. Take care.

Kind regards,

Jimmy R.

3. Share Your Promo Offer With Influencers.

Contact influencers either via direct message, or tweeting them.

All you need to do is to tell them about an exclusive offer that they can take advantage of. Before you start using this strategy, however, I’d like to emphasize how you need to make sure that your promo offer is worth the influencer’s time.

If you’re contacting them for a 5% discount offer of your services, then don’t even bother using this strategy. There’s a good chance that you’ll just annoy the influencer. However, if you’re offering them a 25% promo offer (or more), then that might be something that they would want to consider.

Also, you need to realize that the relevance of your offer is also important. If you’re offering them something that’s entirely irrelevant to their needs, then you’ll never be able to pique their interest even if you give them a 90% discount.

You need to give due diligence to figure out what the influencer’s needs are. That way, you’ll know that you’re giving them something that matters to them, at such an affordable rate.

What I like the most about this strategy is the fact that most Americans find discount offers irresistible. In fact, according to RetailMeNot, “96% of Americans are coupon users.“ The 96% figure is quite telling of how powerful of a “hook” coupons can be when used for building relationships.
